Snowmobiling

I am going to have to use a lot of detail for this blog because I forgot to do one last week. This past Saturday my dad and I decided to go snowmobiling. After all, we have two nice sleds and haven't even gone yet this winter. We were a little worried because of the rain down here in the city but figured it would be snowing up at a higher elevation. So after we hooked the snow mobiles and put on some warm clothes we left to Monte Cristo. I was really worried because it was still raining up by wolf mountain. After an hour of driving we finally made to the parking lot. It wasn't raining but the snow flakes that were coming down super hard. We were so wet that when I picked some snow and pressed into a snowball shape, a gallon of water came out of it. I was glad it wasn't raining but the snow was falling so fast that it was hard to see very far. Even the fog was bad. Once we started to go on the train, it became worse. The snow would stick to our visors so every three seconds I would have to wipe my visor to see the faded shape of my dad driving twenty yards ahead of me. After driving for about five minutes we found someone who had gotten themselves stuck and needed our help. This is the worst part about snowmobiling because snowmobiles normally become stuck in no less than three feet of snow. I have had my share of being stuck, in fact I every time I have gone snowmobiling I have managed to get stuck. Today was the day I hped no to get stuck. In this case this snowmobile was stuck in four feet of snow and on a hill below the trail. To get a snowmobile unstuck you have to lift it up on to more packed snow and push while squeezing the throttle. This may sound complicated but after doing a couple of times it turns into a type of drill. After struggling for a half hour we finally moved the machine back onto the trail. By then my dad and I were pretty soaked but we decided to go on since it wasn't that cold. I somtimes hated it because I could never keep up with my dad let alone see him. You see, my dad has a much bigger engine on his sled than on the one I was driving. It's my mom's and she likes going slow. His is a 750 cc and my mom's is only a 350cc. It was hard for me to go very fast because I couldn't see the trail and I couldn't even see the side of the trail. If it wasn't for the sticks that show where the side of the trail is I probably would be of the side of a cliff right now. Another problem with snowmobliling while it is snowing hard is I couldn't define the horizon from the white snow. This is a problem because I didn't know there was a rise on ditch in front of me until I had already hit it. Besides those factors it was pretty fun, my dad and I did a little bit of hill climbing and had fun in some of the fields up there. On our way back we were at a lower elevation where it was still raining. This part was fun and awful at the same time. The awful part was we were becoming more wet. The fun part was going through puddles on the ground. On Ice snowmobiles don't handle very well. Put water over the ice, driving a snowmobile is almost impossible. Whenever my machine hit water it would fish tail and it took all I had to keep it on the trail. After getting out of the water and hitting snow the track would get traction again and the snowmobile would lurch ahead until it hit another puddle of water. After we passed the water we reached a flat area where we could race our snowmobiles. My machine is getting old so I only reached a speed of fifty but my dads reached a good speed of eighty miles per hour. After riding seventy five miles I was ready to head home. I was surprised, I had made it the entire day with out getting stuck. On the way home I was exahsted and slept.

I think I am amost at one thousand words so I guess I will have to talk about the X-games. I have always enjoyed watching the winter X-games. For this entire week I have been enjoying the winter action. While I was out in minnesota several years ago I was privlaged enought to watch one of the snowmobiling races. The cool thing about snowmobliling races is that it isn't just an oval track like they have with nascar. Snomobling races have bumps, jumps, and sharp turns that the competitors have to manuver around. Also snomobiling races arn't fivethousand laps long they are only about forty and through those forty laps the excitment never dwindls. This years X-games is just as good as the other ones. I saw a skier do a double front flip supeman. Now I want to try some of the things I saw. Now I have reached the area of a thousand words and my fingers are sore from typing so here's where I stop.
